Stats show Aliy , number 12, into McGrath. Backen and Mackey into Takotna (beyond McGrath). Many mushers take their mandatory 24 in McGrath, a larger checkpoint. Takotna is also popular. Both communities are very musher friendly. Takotna children are out of school for Iditarod.Don't know if locations have changed in McGrath, but in 2001 they came in up this river bank and left with fresh dogs (happy/fast) going down this river bank. Gal running in front is a checkpoint volunteer.
